Rules and Regulations

1.       Captain’s Ball is a non-contact game. No player shall knock or push an opponent or interfere with his/her play accidentally or deliberately.
2.       Swatting and tapping the ball away from a player is allowed only when that player has one hand on the ball; the same action is not permitted when the player has two hands on the ball. This applies to the captain as well.
3.       Bouncing the ball and moving with it (like dribbling), or deliberately using your legs to play the ball (such as to block/kick/tackle), are not allowed. However, if the ball touches/hits a player’s legs without his/her deliberate action, play continues.
4.       Players are not allowed to “spike” the ball. A “spike” is defined as a similar spike in a volleyball game where extreme force is used on the ball to pass/score.
5.       A warning will be issued for every violation committed by the player.
6.       Possession of the ball will go the opponent when the ball goes beyond the play boundary or when any player steps on the boundary or beyond the boundary.

Fouls

·         Travelling Foul:
A player may receive the ball with one foot grounded or jump to catch and land on one foot. While that landing foot remains on the ground, the player can only pivot on that foot.
A player may receive the ball with both feet on the ground, or may jump to catch the ball and land on both feet simultaneously. The player may then choose to move either foot, and the other foot shall then be considered the pivoting foot. Proceed as in above. No running with the ball for more than 2 steps. Hopping is not allowed.

·         Jumping Foul:
This occurs when a player with the ball jumps and lands with the ball still in his/her hands. Possession of the ball will then go to the other team. Play will resume from that spot.
·         Holding Foul:
A player is only allowed possession of the ball for a maximum of 5 seconds.
·         Defensive Foul:
Where any contact is made on the player holding the ball, a defensive foul is committed. All players must defend at an arm’s length away. Players are also not allowed to stretch their arms to obstruct the running path of their opponents.
Warnings will be issued to defenders who repeatedly intrude the captain’s boundary of one arm’ length from the chair. Excessive fouling for defenders will result in a free goal for the opponent.
·         Penalty for fouls committed:
Whenever a foul is committed, play is resumed on the spot, with the defending team standing at least one arm’s length away until the ball has been passed or a shot has been attempted.
Game Play

At the start of every game, possession will be determined by a jump ball. The game will start at the baseline where the opposing team scores. Players will wear bibs. (If the team players wear the same colored shirts, they can do without the bibs.)

·         Preliminaries (Round Robin)
- Each half lasts 4 minutes. 1 minute break during half time. Teams will then change their scoring position and game play will resume after a jump ball.

·         Quarter Finals (Round Robin)
- Each half lasts 6 minutes. 1 minute break during half time. Teams will then change their scoring position and game play will resume after a jump ball.

·         Semi Finals (Knock Out Round)
- Each half lasts 7 minutes. 1 minute break during half time. Teams will then change their scoring position and game play will resume after a jump ball.

·         Finals
- Each half will last for 8 minutes. 2 minute break during half time. Teams will then change their scoring position and game play will resume after a jump ball.

1.       Time will run continuously, unless the ball goes out of bounds.
2.       A goal/point is scored when the captain takes possession of the ball (with both hands on the ball) while on the chair for 2 seconds, regardless of whether the captain falls from the chair after the 2 seconds.
3.       The catcher is not allowed to jump off the chair to catch the ball.
4.       A successful goal would count as one point.
5.       After a goal is scored, game play will resume at the baseline with a pass from anyone from the non-scoring team.
6.       In the event of a dead ball, players are required to make at least 1 pass to their teammates first before attempting to score.
7.       Players intending to score a goal to the captain will not be allowed to extend the ball out of the court boundaries (especially near the baseline) to lob it to the captain even though the player is still physically within the court boundaries. Change of ball possession will occur.
8.       If a tie occurs between teams during the quarter or semi-finals, the goal difference is used to determine the team who will proceed on to the next round. If the goal difference is equivalent, we will use the average number of goals scored to decide the team that will move on to the next round.
9.       A walkover will be declared if a team fails to arrive at the court after 3 minutes past the stipulated match time. The opposition team will be awarded 3 points.
